Most accurate .22 rifle

I'm looking to purchase a .22 rifle that i can plink with. I'm wanting to spend no more than $500 and i want it to be as accurate as possible. Maybe something i can customize down the road also, but my #1 is accuracy. So whats the word? I'm sure some of you all have some ideas that i havn't thought of, or even am aware of.

Accuracy, CZ and Savage bolts are very nice. I don't know much about other brands though.

A Ruger 10-22 with a heavy barrel. You can do just about anything you want to customize a Ruger. The parts are never-ending and are available all over the internet and at various shows, like the 1500.

I'd look at the CZ 452 Variations, or find a built 10/22 if i were in your shoes.

I will go ahead and show my bias but the most accurate 22 in my stash is a 1952 Winchester 62A. It is my personal belief that they dont make'em like they used to. I love plinking with these old guns open sites only of coarse. The old pumps and the single shot rolling blocks are some the most fun. If you are looking to customize down the road(ie: scopes, barrels, triggers, etc) these probably aren't for you. If that is more your bag a 10/22 is highly versatile and cheap. Just my opinion.

CZ 452 w/guardian 22 suppressor. Gamez235 has one that he'll hit 10/10 steel targets @ 200 yards. Ask him about it.

it isn't the gun that misses it's the person that pulls the trigger. my mk III with a bull barrel is capable of quarter sized groups at 100yrds. but I'm not capable of shooting that.

Another vote for the CZ 452 rifles. Very Accurate. I hear the Savages are too, but I have not shot one of them yet. The 10/22 can be made to be accurate if you like tinkering and upgrading.

With my CZ 452 Varmint and decent ammo I can make one jagged hole at 50yds and under 1 MOA at 100 yards. I'm working on finding a good ammo for my CZ 452 American 22 mag but it is shooting around .75" at 50 yds and 1" at 100. I can't wait to shoot the 452 Ultra Lux with LOOONNNGGGGG barrel and iron sights. I have 5 CZs now and rarely shoot my other 22 bolt guns anymore. The CZs easily outshout my Ruger 77/22, 10/22s, Marlins 39s and Remington 541T. I really want a 452 FS but that'll have to wait.

Any reputable rifle + Appleseed Class = Improved accuracy.

Above and beyond that, I would go with a Ruger 10/22 and tinker until it is as accurate as you need it to be.

It's kind of like racing, speed costs, how fast do you want to go...Accuracy is the same way.

The smaller the holes, the bigger the dollars.

Look at the gunsmithing tab, by make, Ruger 10/22. everything you need to build one is on there.

10/22 will work and has all the options mentioned above. Personally, after going thru many Semi 22's I got a Winchester 9422 and never looked back. Many coons and gophers regretted that I have it. Unfortunately, I don't think they make them anymore and the ones I see are sky high.
