Recently purchased a 1955 Romanian M44 Carbine with a mismatched bolt on consignment from a local gun shop. From everything I have read online, it is a good idea to check the headspace on this rifle before firing it. Just wondering if anyone in the Fort Wayne area has a NO-GO and/or Field Gauge for a 7.62x54R who would be willing to help me check my rifle before I fire it. Any help would be much appreciated and I would be willing to compensate you for your time and effort.

I don't have any, but a mismatched bolt isn't a concern if that's the way it was rebuilt.

    If someone later swapped things...

Put a peace of painters tape on the back of a casing and trim the excess. It's the perfect thickness (.0015 I think) close the bolt, if puts an indentation on the tape your good to go.

@ JettaKnight: That is the problem, I'm not sure if the bolt was changed when it was rebuilt or if it was changed by the previous owner. I got it on consignment at a gun shop, so they couldn't tell me anything about it. Should have done more research before purchasing I suppose.

@ Outlaw: Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a shot. :)
