Thought I'd start this thread off since I haven't seen one yet...
Anyone seen any yet??? It's supposed to cool off a little this weekend and rain quite a bit next week (Indianapolis). My honey holes are down south though if anyone has seen any in Brown or Monroe counties.
For me, the worst part of the winter is the part between when people start asking if anyone's found any morels yet and the part where I start finding morels (usually about a month or month.5).
I saw a pic today that was represented as morels found near Bloomington. They were a bit darker grey and not very large. But if they were actually as represented that's the earliest I've ever seen in 40+ years of hunting them in Indiana.
April 10th is when I make the first outing here in central part of the state... Mostly find grays then over the next two weeks after they really turn of if we get the rain..
We hit some reclaimed strip pits and other spots this morning down around Petersburg. We did not come up with anything. The woods looked to be too early as we saw none of the things we see with morels in this area (such as snails, not sure why, but when we are finding morels in these pits, I see lots of snails).
I love mushroom hunting but my schedule seems to limit how much I can get out. I'll usually sneak around the woods for a little bit if the turkey hunting is slow, lol
