Then she should get some skin in the game and throw her hat in the ring and go through whatever humiliating, soul-destroying currying of favor is necessary to placate whoever is a hold-out to her candidacy

    She's rapidly becoming a 'very pneumatic' back-bencher

Jordan, who has lost two votes for speaker this week, emerged from an hours-long closed door meeting with fellow Republicans to say he would press ahead with a third vote.

"I'm still running for speaker and I plan to go to the floor and get the votes and win this race," Jordan told reporters.

According to lawmakers in the room, Jordan had earlier said he would pause his speaker bid and called on them to extend the authority of Representative Patrick McHenry. McHenry has been acting speaker since Oct. 3, when a small group of party members ousted Kevin McCarthy.

MTG isn't happy about Jordan's decision.

Check Conservative Review and they give McHenry an F rating.
McCarthy also has an F rating.
Scalise also has an F rating.

This is typical of the left wing Republicans who've been running the party and bending over for Democrats.

Jordan has an A rating and they block him because he won't bend over for the Democrats.

EVEN if they would select a Speaker with a C rating would be an improvement.
But the party INSISTS on being run by the left wing of the party.
    It's THEY who won't compromise.

And the voices staunchly screaming that conservatives need to support the party is deafening. Because supporting democrat causes is better than conservatives making their own way.

Freedom Works gives all 3 a "freedom score" in the 80s. I guess it all depends on the level of purity required for a passing grade.

He didn't have much choice. Some of the same people blocking him blocked the temporary empowerment of the acting speaker compromise

I was disappointed that the so-called 'appropriators' were in the Scalise camp because I think that means he would play ball with business as usual, or at least the believe he would. They may want to force Jordan to give up and then try to resurrect Scalise

“So why, despite a groundswell of support among conservative voters, have a handful of Republicans decided to tank Jordan’s speakership bid?“

“Don’t take my word for it. Bacon admitted as much when complaining to reporters earlier this week about the “pressure campaign back home” for him to back Jordan as speaker. The Nebraska congressman went on to say the reason he opposed Jordan’s initial speakership bid was to stick it to the few House Republicans who ousted McCarthy and prevented Scalise from becoming speaker.“

“You don’t have a process where I play by the rules and some people can’t — and they get what they wanted, and now I’m supposed to play by the rules,” Bacon whined.“

“So, to recap: A grown man serving in the U.S. Congress is actively defying the will of his voters to spite some of his colleagues.”

Bacon...the right name for a pig.

Jim Jordan told his fellow Republicans he will suspend his bid to serve as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and back Republican Patrick McHenry to fill the role on a temporary basis, a lawmaker said on Thursday.

Why not I guess. He loses votes with each vote.

Jordan said he would not seek a third vote to win the post and instead will back a plan to empower McHenry to hold the post until January, according to Republican Representative Jim Banks.

That option, which Democrats have also said they might support, would allow lawmakers to get back to work.
Patrick is the kind of leftist republican they will vote for, and they will have a spineless republican again as speaker.

This is an absolutely infuriating circumstance these spineless twits have found themselves in. Voters gave them the MAJORITY and they are running around divided and bowing to the will of the left??? My God! Pull yourselves together and get it done for crying out loud.

This is the seat that is third in our formal government...and they sent the 'President' to visit a country at war? What would happen if the VP were to take the reigns? Have they completely missed the obvious danger this puts our republic in??? This needs to be settled and these grown adults need to put on their big boy/girl pants and stop bickering and get back to work. If they were my CHILDREN I would have exercised the 'rod of correction' by now, the fact that they actually believe themselves to be adults and PROFESSIONALS taxes their grasp on reality! They are certainly beginning to give weight to the theory of Washington being nothing but Dems and Rinos.

I am coming to believe that the Republican “party”, isn’t really a party. More like a collection of vaguely like minded people who are willing to shank the others if they don’t get what exactly what they want. I don’t agree with most of the things the modern Democratic Party stands for, but think the Republicans are broken. I wish there was a viable third party choice, a choice that could actually get elected.

Not far off base with this.

The left in the house all seem to vote in lock step, the republicans seem to run the gamut from conservatives like many on INGO to dem light.

The radical leftists, the progressives, the democratic socialists, and the liberal populists all basically agree on the purpose of government, and even a weak tailwind is better than any headwind.

The Republicans have a serious problem by comparison...The Establishment/CoC wing views the government and its place in American society vastly differently than do the populist, MAGA, and libertarian wings of the party.

The fundamental views of the (ownership class) Establishment Republicans do not align with the views of the (working class) Republican populists, so power struggles like this on the right seem basically inevitable to me.

I think this is true. It's basically Sowell's conflict of visions. To put a finer point on it, I think we have to include the role of the "establishment" elites.

It's in both parties. The establishment in each party both want similar things. They want elites to have all the power. They both actually want big government. They may differ on what they precisely want big government to do, but they both want all the power.

As you say, the left is aligned within the Democratic party on what they want government to do. And that's quite compatible with the establishment wing of the party. Great, you want bigger government? Awesome. And thank you for demanding that we have more power. We'll do our best to take it.

But conservatives/populists want things the establishment Republican elite don't want. Moderates are fine with it of course because, go along to get along. They listen to NPR too. But to piece together a coalition the CoC/neocons have to weave a complicated grift to convince populists. Neocons, Dickhead Cheney, GWB, Mitch McConnell, fooled Republicans for years. We tried to reduce the size of government. Couldn't get it done. We'll do it next time if you vote for us again.

So now we have this so-called "freedom caucus" in the House whose membership talks a really good game. They kinda act like they sorta stick to principles that conservative populists like.

Whether they're legit or just trying to fund-raise off the "destroys the libs" YouTube shorts I don't know. But regardless it's pissing off the establishment chamber-o-commerce neocons who don't want to take any chances that their their gravy train might leave without them.
