Marine Captain pulled over for open carrying on motorcycle. Handcuffed while police dither about for something to accuse him of. He is then offered to be let go if police officer could draw pistol and point it at Marine while he rode away.

It's all good. Officer safety trumps everything. So I don't see what the problem is by requesting that your partner be able to have his firearm at the ready so he can shoot you if you make any sudden moves until you are out of range.
