    Shoot/carry whatever is comfortable for you. In my opinion,go for the 9mm. Heard nothing but good things about the shields. buy extra mags too. I don't ever want my last words to be "I didn't have enough ammo". I always carry my EAA Match 40, with 2 21round henning mags,bersa 380 in the pocket, +2 8 round mags.

    I think 6 round capacity largely defeats the advantages of a pistol over a revolver.

    BTW - if you like .40 S&W, why not go with a 40 revolver? You can probably find a 310 Night Guard on the used market; 6 shot moon clips to shoot 10mm or 40 S&W.
