I've put close to 600 rounds through a NANO without any hiccups so far. And was your sccy a series 1 or 2? My son has a series 2 and has not had one problem with it. They are supposed to have lifetime warranties with those also.
Your best bet is always to go rent and try them out as you go. I hate to beat a dead horse here... but you cant go wrong with a Glock. If you're looking for a 9mm for carry, a friend of mine recently bought a PX4 and loves it. You cant really just buy on faith from we tell you though, get some rounds downrange.
I own a Kahr pm9, have found it to be reliable and easy to maintain, I like the fact that all the slide parts except maybe the springs are stainless steel.
The one thing I don't like is the long trigger pull compared to the Ruger rc and lc, other than that it's small will handle plus p ammo and is easily concealable.
