Also would it be alright if the brass I use is out of the same gun I'm reloading for? I've heard it should be full case resized and not just neck sized. What if I had a buddy resize it in his press then could I use this to reload safely?
I've reloaded a 30cal bin full for .223, and haven't had any problems. I'm using the LeeClassic turret (4 hole). I've fired them in both at .223 Howa bolt gun, and a friends .223/5.56 AR-15, both fired fine, the AR cycled through a 10 round mag without missing a beat. The only difference we noted, was the steel case round he normally fires where being through backwards and to the right, while the reloads I had done where being ejected forward, and to the right. Again, they all cycled just fine with my loads. Using 55gr Hornady and H335 powder.
You might get away with it. You probably won't. A bunch of us highpower shooters learned that you won't get away with it. For reliability with the AR semi-auto rifle, you must FL resize the cases.
My first venture into reloading was with a LeeLoader in .38 SPL. It takes a long time to load 50 rounds. IIRC, it took around 45 minutes. I quickly wanted and bought a single stage bench mounted press. For loading .223 for the AR, you should have a small base full length sizing die. I believe the LeeLoader only neck sizes. Your brass should also be trimmed after full length resizing. If I were you, I'd save up for a bench mounted single stage press and get some good dies with a small base sizing die. I also highly recommend either a EGW or Lyman chamber checker.
