    Was gifted an old rifle...had a leather buttstock cover that was glued on with tar.....thick black goopey nonsense and i dont know how to get it all off or what in the heck it is. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. :ingo:

    3M makes a spray that you can get at most automotive stores. It is called 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner. It removes adhesive residue, road tar, grease, oil, tree sap, dead bugs, etc. I use it to remove road tar off my vehicles. It's worth a try.

    WD 40 does pretty good at this kind of work and is pretty much w/o negative effects to most surfaces.
