Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to resign

I am taking this report with a grain of salt, but if the recent reports of arrests near him are true, it could be a sign that he's fallen out of favour with the head man. Regardless, his resignation would be a good thing for the people of Iran, as long as his replacement doesn't come from the same loony tunes faction.

With recent unrest among the population of Iran, my guess is that the new president will be a little more moderate than Ahmadinejad.

I saw this morning about the arrests for his associates using witchcraft. The group he comes from believes in this mystical Imam that is to end the world. The Ayatollah Khomeini (the original guy) thought they were too wacky and dangerous to be in his government.

My gut feel is that any change in Iran will not improve our relations with them. The Shia are not as nutty as the Sunni (well, maybe as nutty but in a slightly different way) but the control that the ayatollahs have on Iran is a matter of record. I suspect that nothing good (for us) can come with a power change.
