I'm glad the government is here to make sure things are "fair". I wouldn't want to upset some pack of camo wearing commies by killing an animal on my land in a manner they deemed to be "unfair".

There is no live test for CWD.....

More on your post when I'm on a PC one not my iPhone

Indeed so. It hadn't crossed my mind that this would be the case. From what I read, the first manifestation will be abnormal growths in the brain. If they can corral the animal to put it on a truck, why not try to detect these with some tool of radiology? I hadn't read any mention of this being attempted with something that apparently is visible if you split the deer's head open.

I have no issue with hunting, but lets be honest there is no sport to it. One opponent has every single advantage.

We farm raise pretty much every other animal, whats the difference in this case?

That depends entirely upon circumstance. Again, my previous issue that 'canned hunting' is not being defined and that it could take in anything from shooting an animal confined to a stall to hunting within a 10,000 acre fenced hunting preserve. It is necessary to define it before criticizing it.

Might have something to do with the almost constant replenishing of " shooting stock" in the shooting preserves.

I could see that but it strikes me that a business, whether a supplier or the end client (the hunting ranch) would risk losing it's entire stock of animals through infection. If a business owner risks losing his business over the infection of his herd via CWD, he's going to make darn sure his herd is CWD free.

I think P&Y, B&C and Safari Club are the way to go with something like this. Let people who concern themselves with recognized trophies define the conditions under which the trophy is acceptable and voluntary compliance with the group's bylaws is how you get such recognition.

Plenty of animals are comfined to stalls to be killed. Again what is the differnce in this case? I dont get the distinction between deer, chickens, hogs, etc.

There is no distinction, though the subject is most hotly debated among people who think deer feeding in prepared farm fields are 'wild' and anything less isn't.

I have to agree with the point that its no different than fields full of cows, to be slaughtered. The issue here is, its still being called a sport. Whens the last time you went to work on Monday morning and your buddy said, MAN, I went cow hunting on Saturday, you wouldnt believe it.. I walked up 3 feet away, and shot him.. IM A BADASS!!!!

If you want to have a deer farm, I see no problem with it, but if you want to step into a fenced in area, and shoot a deer that can not run from you, do not lie to me by calling it hunting.

You are bypassing the point. If people want to ban something, they need to start by defining WTF it is. That is the first necessary element for addressing such a suggestion no matter how asinine it may appear to be at face value. This leads to a bunch of do-gooders up in arms about shooting deer who are completely deprived of movement and hunters who who may be doing anything but that yet affected by a moronic law sold on the extreme example. So far as I am concerned, I could largely agree with you. The problem is that, once again, we are getting set up for a larger debate on public policy in which two sides are arguing about two entirely different things.

I agree, but the problem is that the absolute lack of definition plus the self-righteous kibitzers are likely to frame a debate which, if successful (selling the extreme case) could conceivably outlaw hunting anywhere there is a fence of any description, no matter how many square feet or square miles.

As I see it, the call for outlawing 'canned hunts' is much like the call to outlaw 'evil guns'. In both cases, the definition is entirely in the opinion of the beholder. Personally, I don't see where hinting or guns either one are any of anyone else's business, but when having an attack of the busybodies, at minimum a finite definition is necessary in order to address the issue. Anyone for laws against driving 'too fast' with no such thing as posted limits to define what 'too fast' may be?

Just another case of Fudds being on the wrong side of a freedom issue, again. I have no issues with canned hunts, for most of the same reasons that other posters have already cited. No different than going to a farm and picking out your cow or pig for slaughter. Only diff is you have to kill it yourself. Wonder how these people feel about the big game places in Texas that do the same on thousands of acres. Or Ted Nugent and his game farm? Leave private property owners alone and mind your own damned business for once.

The only way to preserve our heritage and am in for it and have done it. No one these days wants to let anybody on their land and I dont blame them. A lot of people have ruined it for the rest of us. You have my vote!
