Not as long as they think they can...

Not that you are a criminal, but I bet charges would be filed if something happened to an officer in your lawn. Theoretically speaking. For this very reason I want to fence my entire property and give the dogs access to it all.
They'd be less likely to enter in the first place with two large GSDs politely telling them it would be a bad idea. Not that you are a criminal, but I bet charges would be filed if something happened to an officer in your lawn. Theoretically speaking.
How long does it take to bring water up to 212F in a large cauldron?

Starting at 70f that is 142f temperature rise. It will take 142 btu/lb of water assuming 100% efficiency, roughly 1100 btu/gallon. Your average sized large cauldron holds about 30 gallons, so about 33k btu to bring it to boiling. Most stove top burners are about 12k btu, but a large cauldron should fit on at least two, so about an hour and a half, as a first order approximation.
That guy should have called the police........................Wait....

Seems like 45 minutes is more than long enough for somebody to be standing on a porch then... Your fine analysis not withstanding.

This!Option 5) Dress up like Ed McMahon and walk up with a giant check has yet to be decide in case law.
If he did that, that would have given the PD their exigent circumstances to enter the home.
If they don't answer the door your options are 1) Go away 2) Post up and get a warrant 3) Boot the door. Which of the options is appropriate depends on the situation. Option 4) attempt to annoy the owners into opening the door is dumb.

Police trying to enter your abode creates an exigency for police to enter your abode? Interesting 'created exigency' situation... I'm sure the Court of Appeals would have no trouble with that one.
