I recently went a little overboard at an auction and bought this awesome Model 1871 Springfield Rolling Block rifle. I bought it as an upgrade to the other one in my collection (which I have now listed on the trader). These rifles are pretty rare with only 10,000 having been made. They were only made for two years, 1871 and 1872. The action is different from any other Rolling Block rifle. When the hammer is cocked and the breech block is opened, the hammer drops into a safety position. After the breech block is closed, the hammer has to be pulled back into the firing position again. The only other rolling block that shares this safety system is the New York Militia rifle. I have been looking for a nice 1871 one for a long time, so I'm definitely happy to add this one to the collection. 50-70s are a blast to shoot too!
