If it's a "base model" shotgun, greatly prefer a Remington 870 of some kind. They're easier to "upgrade" than a stock Mossberg 500 due to the barrel/magazine interface.

I handled a couple of 590s at TSG the other day... They felt "chintzy", to me. Not sure if a 590-A1 would feel any more substantial or not?
