There was a recent thread describing several friends shooting for a day. One of the feature events was setting off some H2Targets brand binary explosive.

I’ve purchased Tannerite several times in the past. It's been the 'standard' in the market for several years.
A couple of gun shows back, I met the gentlemen from H2Targets from western Ohio. I liked their product and I liked its price point.
With another gun show coming up, I wanted to offer up a simple and decidedly unscientific test on the last container of Tannerite I had around.
I recently had several INGO friends at the range for some ammo testing. While they were there, I asked if they would make a subjective comparison between Tannerite and the H2 Targets product. Of course, they said‘Yes’! We were primarily rating the ‘boominess’of each compound and the loudness of the report.
The set-up was simple. I mixed a half pound of Tannerite and a half pound of the H2Targets product. Each was placed in matching plastic jars and placed next to a stump in my yard. The air temperature was around 80 degrees F.
OneBadV8 did the honors using a .308Savage bolt gun.
First theTannerite product:

Next the H2Targets material:

We noticed that the Tannerite smoke was bluish and the H2Targets smoke was a gray-brown. This doesn’t mean anything,we just noticed it!
Here’s the summary:

We all felt the H2Target material was slightly ‘boomier’ than the Tannerite. It had a nice crisp blast.
The big difference between the products is price. I’ve seen the Tannerite product sell in the area of $7 to $9 dollars per pound. I recently saw a 2# package of Tannerite offered at Rural King in Columbus for $30!! or $15 per pound. Outrageous!
At the lastI ndy1500 Gun Show, the H2Targets product was selling for $45 for 10 pounds($4.50/pound). This is a far better price for a product that is similar and slightly better than Tannerite.

To finish the day of shooting means we sat down for dinner!
I love days with shooting, good friends, and good food!
