Thanks I've actually been looking for a tree to plant when our baby is born. Any recommendations for being planted in November in a subdivision? Plenty of yard though!

Also we are at a rental house. Owner and HOA don't care about a tree but I'm looking for something that would be established enough to stand up to neglect by the next tenant. Something we could drive past and see from the street when it has really matured

I purchased several trees from Gurney's over the years, and I have lost a couple. They have always replaced the tree the next season for free when they start shipping again.

    A.bentonab-

We planted softwoods for our kids. White pine, Spruce, hemlock...all transplants from Maine, like my wife!

The state tree (Tulip) makes a good shade tree & grows quicker than most hardwoods...but a softwood tree will outgrow it initially.

Huh. Guess I'll have to follow up. I've bought from them twice and regardless the product I've only had 50% success rate. The ones that live are wildly hardy and surprise me, the ones that die never showed signs of life. I wrote off Gurney's but I guess I'll have to check into the guarantee.
