Debating reworking the interior of my currently packed gun safe, instead of buying a new one.
Pretty sure reworking it wont help, as there are just too many guns in there (and some not even in there), as well as my sweetie's jewerly box. I have a grand to spend, but the safes at rural King, Lowes, Mynards, etc. are just organized inside funky. The rotary safes are nice, but more than I want to spend.

Has anyone upgraded the racks inside their safe and added storage to the door? The door seems to be the best place to upgrade.

The door of my Johnson came with pegboard. I came across very sturdy nylon hooks that really mount firmly to the door and don't mar handgun finishes.
Unfortunately, I have a disability (old age) that won"t let me remember the name of the maker. I told Johnson about them so maybe he can help, Mauybe google knows. If I can find out, I'll post here.

Found them! Talonhooks.com. They are as good as their web page says. Hooks lock into place, can easily be removed with a screwdriver and the design is patented so that they are the only ones that can make them. I don't remember the cost, but they are the best I have found.Hope this helps.

My safe is divided with long guns on one side and shelves on the other. I removed the long gun "racks" that came with the safe and installed rifle rods to that side. I use hangers on the shelves for the hand guns. Easily doubled my storage.

My next step will be to go to the door, but haven't needed to make that move yet.

I have removed the shelves and re-designed the rifle racks to increase long gun capacity. Had to change the spacing so long guns would fit better. 1/4" pegboard on door with the talon hooks for handguns. I do not hang handguns by the trigger guard, not safe enough or stable for me.

I do not understand what manufacturers are thinking when they design the interiors, especially the long gun racks.

I've also been contemplating removing the 1/3 shelving on the one side of the safe for more / more better long gun storage. But I'm not at all handy... And, to boot, I'm not all that good at coming up with spatial solutions like that! Easiest would be to just basically mirror the portion that's already done, I suppose.

If you are storing any ammo in your safe, try moving that out. Are you having an issue with long guns or handguns? If its handguns, there might be some options. If you are having issues organizing long guns, i would say you are SOOL.

    Both actually
Probally have to just buy another safe. Seems like the lions share of safe manufacturers love to sell those carpet covered contraptions with the slots too close together .

I too am interested in redesigning the interior of my safe. One side has shelving and the other has 3 rows of long gun racks. As other have said the grooves in the rack are too close together and are too high to support shorter length rifles/shotguns and the grooves aren't big enough for a SxS.
I was thinking rather than having 3 rows (front to back), I may cut that out and make two racks that would be on either side. I'm debating if that would make it easier to get stuff in & out. I'm ok with giving up some capacity so long as I can get to stuff a little easier and I hate having to tilt the gun and snake it in/out under the racks.
My wife probably wouldn't be happy if I bought another safe. She wasn't thrilled that I bought this one on a spur of the moment

I use these rifle rods in my safe as well. They do make a big difference in what you can store. And you can find them on Amazon, eBay, or Cabela's if you want to save some money by buying them with discounted gift cards.
