So I am out in the garage getting the atv all ready for the season, and I have my iPod on shuffle. It got me thinking who do you guys consider to be your guitar heroes? Doesn't matter music genre or style of play. Besides some of the obvious ones, I like:

    Tony Iommi
    Young, Michael Schenker (UFO days)
    Dickey Betts
    Tom Morello

    Just to name a few.

    Stevie Ray Vaughn
    Pete Townshend
    RandyRhodes
    Frank Zappa
    Jimi Page

covers blues with page and Vaughn. Metal with randy Rhodes. Classic rock and punk with the who. If Frank Zappa had just shut up and played guitar he would be on more lists.

i might add a songwriter/player in Neil Young when he straps on old blackie. Who else can play a solo that is just one note.

Dang, there are sooo many great ones, honestly, George Lynch always pops into my head when I see a question like this. Not too many people know who he is. Loves me some Dokken, am I dating myself?

If you have not heard niel young and crazy horse play a song called powderfinger YouTube it up from about 2002 live. Great song great guitar playing and worth mentioning on a gun board for sure. Since I am on a phone maybe someone can link it up here. Niel wrote it for Lynyrd Skynyrd but an airplane crashed and that was that.

A man against "the man" song that everyone should hear at least once.

    John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
    Mark Knopfler

... and if we count bassists in the crowd - Geddy Lee.

And yes, I do realize that Petrucci and Knopfler are two VERY different styles - but I like them both.

Currently we should include Warren Haynes and on bass Les claypool.

    Derek Trucks.

Also, one most people don't realize is John Mayer. He makes some soppy pop music, but his heart is blues guitar.

I tried forever to learn this one, but it's just simply outside my realm of capabilities. He screws around a bit befor the stars if the song, but it's worth watching. The guy has freaky fingers! (I think he has an 8 or 9 fret reach)
