After checking out the collectable ammo thread I decided I better share some of this stuff with you guys. My Gramps was a lifetime NRA member and had more guns than I could count back then. Before he passed he gave away a lot of his guns and my Grandma sold the rest.

Only thing I came out with was Marlin Model 60 22lr in almost mint condition. I lost out on the great classic handguns he owned.

Anywho, I now have all of this old ammo and stuff in boxes and I'm not really sure what all of it is or if it even still has value. I'm hoping some of you can tell me what it is and a ruff estimate on value.

    Here are the pics.

I really like the 1911 Ball and M2 Ball in the web belts. Some of those rounds are dummy rounds though. Nice stuff you got there. :yesway:

    Thanks.

What is the M2 ball? How do I tell if they are dummy rounds? Which ones?

But what is it worth? And where would I sell it? I don't have the post count to sell it on here. Are there any good shops to take stuff like this?

I'd much rather trade it on something useful than to just let it sit in boxes.

Are those tracer rounds I see with the orange colored tips every 5th shot? Just wondering why the rest are same color but those are orange.

The M2 ball is the 30 caliber ammo in the steel en bloc clips. It is for the M1 Garand but can be removed from the clips and fired in 1903, 1903A3 and 1917s as well. The dummy rounds have the dimples in the cartridge case and don't have any powder in them. The ammo belts bring decent money now a days. You might want to do a bit of research to find out prices since I haven't kept up with it. You can look on Gun Broker, Auction arms and even E Bay for the pricing. Also might try the CMP site for ammo pricing. :twocents:

I hope we get an answer to this, I've been thinking the same thing. :dunno:

It looks like AP, armor piercing, black tip and tracer, orange tip. I didn't look closely at that before b/c I was too excited about the M2 and 1911 Ball stuff.

Yea, was curious. I remember seeing some of that ammo at the gun show and the guy told me it was AP with tracers every 5th so was wondering if he had the same ammo. Pretty cool ammo from Grandpa none the less.

It really is too bad about the guns. He had all the legends. I remember seeing them as a kid, but he never let me shoot or handle any of them much. He passed before we ever got the chance to shoot together so the guns were little interest to me as a kid. But what I wouldn't give to get a few of them back now.

Anybody know much about the Remington mag? What is that for? caliber?
