    Was pulling out of toys r us in greenwood onto county line and anyone who frequents that area knows getting out of that lot can be challenging at best.... Well I thought I had a small window to get out but come to find out it was small then I though (no wrecks or honking). Some old guy in a gray crown Vic with an Indiana plate and single radio antenna on the trunk and off duty pulls up and yells over asking if I am trying to be evil conevil or something. I smile and say "no I just essential paying attention" and he has the most dumbfounded look on his face and drives off.

    I think he though I was going to get smart with him and then he could pull me over or something......

    Part of me wanted to tell him to let me be and the day you see cops stop driving like idiots then that is the day you can jump on me..... Should have asked him how bissard was doing.

    In the end I love how not reacting in a way that someone wants you to really screws with their head.

    And... Back to insults

    I understood just fine. Not drunk though

    Yeah, if I'd have just stuck with the gasoline and spray paint it would have been fine. The post looks like it may have been made via a mobile device. Many of them end up looking a bit off. I didn't really have a problem understanding the post, I just wanted to brag about my love of spray paint.

    I think most people can spot on unmarked crown Vic cop car a mile a way haha.

    I've seen plenty of Crown Vics that were driven by people 150 years old that had a radio antenna on the trunk. I've known someone that bought one new and had a radio antenna on the trunk simply because they were a redneck that used the car as an escort car at times. I've seen plenty of ex-police cars sitting in parking lots that still had an antenna. The other day I could have swore I saw a DNR suv but when it got closer, it turned out to be some idiot with a lame badge decal (said something about paranormal on it). You may have just seen an idiot.

    Best comment right there.

    Crown Vic, single antenna, no mention of lights or badge or stereotype haircut. Didn't we just discuss cop wannabes a week or so ago? Maybe this was another?

    Either way u can always do a Michigan left by turning right. Yeah, that intersection pretty much sucks.

    Yeah, and no offense to T. Dave, but based on what I'm gathering from his original post, if they guy was an officer he probably could have pulled him over, legallty (no smart comment required).

    I am not a big fan of that intersection. Instead of going out on to County Line Rd, I go north in the parking lot to the traffic light at 31.

    Some old guy in a gray crown Vic with an Indiana plate and single radio antenna on the trunk and off duty

    Was it an Indiana passenger plate or an Indiana police plate? How did you know just by the car it was an off-duty officer? Did the car have red/blue lights just above the rearview mirror or in the back window? Radio antennas don't mean ****, my Charger doesn't have a single one on it and it is a real police car.

    If he wasn't dead, Evel Knievel would be pissed you misspelled his name. The guy probably had a dumbfounded look on his face because he didn't understand what "no I just essential paying attention" meant.

    Part of me wanted to tell him to let me be and the day you see cops stop driving like idiots then that is the day you can jump on me..... Should have asked him how bissard was doing.

    Yes, you should have done that. You would be more respected as a badass had you said it in person and not posted on INGO that you didn't say it at all.

    In the end I love how not reacting in a way that someone wants you to really screws with their head.

    I feel the same way when I deal with guys (legally) carrying guns while I'm on-duty. I can tell when they prepare themselves for a confrontation and then the wind gets let out of their sails when I don't disarm them or I thank them for exercising their right.

    Most police agencies sell their cars when they are taken out of service. I would be willing to bet that of all the unmarked Crown Vics seen on the road these days, only 10% of them are actually in service as squad cars. There is a car club called the "Crown Vic Boys" that all drive former police cars and other than a club sticker in the window, they could be mistaken for the police.

    A holler in Kentucky
    Not many cops drive the Crown vics around here anymore. If you see one, chances are it's some young crack head looking dudes, or a senior citizen. The old geezers usually have the nice ones, there's even one really old guy here locally who has red and blue baseball hats on his rear dash.:rolleyes: There's several old police cruisers in the scummy area of town that still have the antennae on them, and the spot light, but the punks that own them don't take care of them, and they are usually missing a bumper, or have a doughnut spare tire.:):

    I understand selling old squad cars and people buying them for personal vehicles. I've known people that have owned them. I saw a Charger at work the other day that still had the tan and brown paint scheme on it so I thought it was a cop sitting in the parking lot on business. Once I saw the driver, I knew it was no longer a cop car. I can understand not making people repaint a white, black, or car. Is it a requirement to have the tan and brown cars repainted once sold to the public? Lots of organizations buy old school busses from farmers to churches. They are required to repaint them so I'm wondering if the tan and browns should be.

    Yes, it is a requirement that the car be repainted if it is a 1994 model or newer.

    IC 5-22-22-9
    Disposal of law enforcement vehicles
    Sec. 9. (a) If a purchasing agency disposes of a law enforcement vehicle that is a model year of 1994 or after and is painted in a color scheme of more than one (1) color by transferring the vehicle to:
    (1) a person who will operate the vehicle on a public highway in Indiana, the person must repaint the vehicle in:
    (A) a monochrome color scheme; or
    (B) a color scheme that does not duplicate the color scheme of an Indiana law enforcement vehicle;
    before the vehicle is operated on a public highway in Indiana;
    (2) a person who will sell or otherwise transfer the vehicle to another person who will operate the vehicle on a public highway in Indiana, the person must repaint the vehicle in:
    (A) a monochrome color scheme; or

    before the vehicle is sold or otherwise transferred to the other person to be operated on a public highway in Indiana;
    (3) a person who will sell or otherwise transfer the vehicle to another person who will not operate the vehicle on a public highway in Indiana, the person is not required to repaint the vehicle before the vehicle is sold or otherwise transferred to the

    other person; or

    (b) Before a purchasing agency disposes of a law enforcement vehicle that is painted in a color scheme of more than one (1) color, the purchasing agency must provide a copy of this subsection to the prospective purchaser of the vehicle.
    (c) A person who violates this section commits a Class C infraction.

    I think that makes sense. Anybody can go buy a white, black, or blue crown vic from a lot. I don't think a non LEO can order a tan and brown or black and white color schemed car.

    Chicago still regrets making that mistake with Elwood and Jake... (no a CV tho) :D

    How so? Unmarked car and no uniform is an illegal stop for a violation involving a motor vehicle.

    IC 9-30-2-2
    Uniform and badge; marked police vehicle
    Sec. 2. A law enforcement officer may not arrest or issue a traffic information and summons to a person for a violation of an Indiana law regulating the use and operation of a motor vehicle on an Indiana highway or an ordinance of a city or town regulating the use and operation of a motor vehicle on an Indiana highway unless at the time of the arrest the officer is:
    (1) wearing a distinctive uniform and a badge of authority; or
    (2) operating a motor vehicle that is clearly marked as a police vehicle;
    that will clearly show the officer or the officer's vehicle to casual observations to be an officer or a police vehicle. This section does not apply to an officer making an arrest when there is a uniformed officer present at the time of the arrest.
    As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.18.

    The caselaw is clear that a traffic stop constitutes an arrest for purposes of this section.

    Best,

    Joe
