The reason is that so many people seem intent on pushing lightweight j-frames onto women for a carry gun. That includes gun shop sales people and well-intentioned husbands and boyfriends.
If they're not the worst choice for a novice shooter, they're in the top 5. I understand the "she won't carry anything else, so we don't have any choice" thing, but it's just not a good idea.
