Hey I'd like to get a new Glock in a big bore .45 caliber. I'm not sure which one to choose. Which one of the models listed above, are closest to my G-19.
Also, would anyone have a clue as to which gunshop in southern IN would have the best selection???
Thx.
+1. G30SF. And, the G30SF can also use G21, 13 rnd mags.
There are no higher capacity factory mags available for the G36.
G30SF - 10 rnds, optional 13
G36 - 6 rnds
With a G21 mag, the G30SF offers 2x the capacity of the G36. As Oliver noted, this comes at a cost of about 0.17" in width.
While there is a measurable difference in width, I don't notice much of a size difference carrying the G19 vs the G30SF. I notice more of a weight difference FWIW.
I had a 36 for awhile, its single stack if that is what you are looking for, if not then the 30 is the way to go. Either way is a good choice just depends on your personal preferences and such. Since the 36 is single stack it is going to be thinner than the 30 and closer to the thickness of the 19.
im picking up a 36 soon to try it out and compare it to my shield. I personally didnt like the 30 due to it being so thick. I figure if I am going to carry something that thick, might as well carry my glock 21! But, I am also a BIG fan of full size pistols.
Another +1 for the G30. I'm a huge fan of the G21 and use mine for carry and IDPA so all my G21 mags and holsters work with my G30. If the 30 is a touch too thick, the SF might just be the way to go. I carry the G30 everywhere and with a good belt and holster combo you'll forget it is there.
I've had a G36, G21sf, and finally a G30. (in that order)
I've happily settled on the G30 due to mag compatibility with the G21 and higher capacity than the G36
I do not miss the extra grip of the G21 because the standard G30 10 round mags have a tall base plate for your pinky to comfortably rest.
I do not miss the extra barrel length of the G21 because I use the G30 as my EDC. You can tell it's not there when carrying but when shooting, it doesn't matter because it's very accurate even at farther distances!
IMO, The thickness of the G36 vs G30 is negligible when you consider ammo capacity and the fact that there are many more accessories for the G30 than the G36. The thickness difference is just about 3/16 of an inch and if that amount is really that important to carrying comfortably then maybe it's time to get some bigger waisted pants.
Let's not forget the 30s. It's the 30 with a 36 slide. I'm not exactly sure on it's release date (it may already be available). It provides the slide thickness of the 36 with the frame capacity and size of the 30. Sounds like a great combo, and people have been doing it for years.
I picked up a G30, they just happened to have one at the Ace Hardware in Scottsburg...so I bought it.
Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but so far I like it.
The only downside...it wouldn't fit in the holster for my 19.
Glock 38 is same size as the G19 and its a .45 but a .45 GAP, a lot of people don't like it but I think is a great option for someone that is looking for a .45 in a small package.
I spent a bunch of time trying the G36 and G30sf out to see which I wanted to buy. I could make arguments for both and really was kind of stuck. Then, the salesman mentioned that he had just got a G29sf in earlier that day, so I bought that.
