Can you mount most led 1" lights to a rifle? I read somewhere about not doing this if the light doesnt have springs on both sides of the battery because if not the batteries will slam into the head of the light from recoil and will kill it over time. If so which surefires can you use? I want to mount a light to a moe handguard and was planning on using a small rail on top with a vtac or elzetta zrx mount with a one inch light or a elzetta mount that connects to the front sight and puts the light below the barrel. If not i might do a x300,tlr1 etc on the rail at about 10 oclock. Any help appreciated.

It's true that a lot of lights aren't designed to be used as weapon lights.

Saying that, there's been A LOT of people who have had great success using the Streamlight Poly-TAC in a VTAC mount. It's also the most cost efficient method.

I am currently using a Surefire X300, but it's expensive.

You'll find actual weapon lights to be expensive.

If you dont want to spend $100+, go with the Streamlight Poly-TAC.

Any of you usE the eotech/insight wl1. 2aa 150 lumen light. Thought that would be nice since it uses AA which is what almost all of my stuff. Kinda pricey though.

IT's not that the lights wont hold up to recoil.... As long as the lights is made with a solid switch and good LED board... you can beat them to death.

What happens is that the batteries can fail. If there isn't a spring on each end of the battery, they get slammed into the front of the light and this increases the risk of cracking the cells. I've only ever seen this first hand once and heard of several other occurrences...
Cracked lithium batteries is a bad deal. Your light will be done and you could get a chemical burn.

Personally, if I were in the market for a nice weapon mountable light that was a good value... I'd pick the Fenix TK15 or the Fenix PD32 ultimate.

    18650

Can i use a 18650 in a light mounted on a AR15 or is that dangerous? It would be nice to be able to recharge the battery and just keep some 123's for backup. If not im might just stick with a 2AA powered light. I have a guzillion aa batteries, they are cheap and can be found anywhere and rechargables are cheap. From the reviews ive seen that pd32 ultimate is a nice torch.

Sure. Most 18650 lights are built as weapon lights.

Fenix TK15 has been on my rifle for over 2 yrs with lots and lots of rounds through it and still works perfectly.
