Hinkle's in Madison is always at the top of my list.

    In Indy: Papa Roux, Shapiro's.

King Fish in Jeffersonville is a favorite, too.

Of course, these aren't the only good ones! There are plenty more!

In the People's Republic of Bloomington: Hinkle's Hamburgers and Wee Willy's

Hinkle's has GREAT, greasy burgers and Wee Willy's makes a damn tasty burger AND has the best breakfast in town.

Is there still a place in Indy called Shapiros? Im probably spelling it wrong.
They had the best rubans and cheesecake ever IMHO.

Don't know about the downtown store, but they one out in Carmel that is excellent. Greatest sandwiches in Indiana. Hot Pastrami on rye, meat is thick enough to even strain my big mouth.

Speaking of pizza I'll throw another one out there, The New Bethel Ordinary in Wannamaker....great pizza.

Best pizza in the state. And only feet from my house. Hey, they are not busy, think I'll go get breakfast.

Also check out Old McDonald's in Acton. He has a great breakfast and the dinners are pretty good for a small place. Plus Charlie will let you smoke in there, if you're into that crap.

    Right here.
    A couple of my favorites:

Brownie's Family Resturant in Bean Blossom - ALL food is home style TONS of home made pie's and cakes!

Napoli's in Beech Grove - Fileto de Napoli (fork tender and melts in your mouth) Also love the salad dressing and the home made Lemoncello.

    House of Tokyo - Greenwood.

As for pizza I have to go with another Wanamaker staple - Randy's deluxe!

Mug and Bun is my burger of choice followed closely by Edwards Big E and hand dipped onion rings.

+1 for Mug and Bun...My wife craved mug and bun root beer cheeseburgers when she was pregnant, so I was a "frequent flyer" there for 6 mos at all hours of the day and night. They even gave us a set of mugs a couple of weeks after we became new parents. Just really nice folks.

How about a few miles outside Indiana? I offer up Joe's Pizza in my hometown of Paris, Illinois just a few miles over the border west of Terre Haute. Real Italian food and terrific pizza. Yeah technically you're in Illinois but it is downstate, so it's a lot more like Indiana than Chicago.
