$1600 is a lot of money for a shot gun whose base model is $300.
You do not have to go custom to exceed $10,000 is the shotgun world. Fine double barrels have been built for the richest and most powerful men in the world for years. Beretta is considered the cheapest of the premium brands. Look up the price for a DT-10 EELL, and that is a production gun. Krieghoff, Blazer, and Perazzi have production models that send $20,000 goodbye. Collectable Doubles easily exceed $50,000. It takes $200,000 plus and a three year wait to get a Fabbri shotgun.
When I worked at Americase, I designed a case custom fit case for a collectable shotgun the owner was bragging that he only had to give $140,000 for it. That was not the most expensive shotgun we ever handled either.
I really like higher end shotguns, but shotguns sports are one of the few where a $400 shotgun and a $16,000 shotgun are on equal footing. I ran 50 in a row on a trap field with a Mossberg 500 in 1995. That was the cheapest gun on the line, and lots of owners of expensive guns never shoot 50 in a row.
