Did I hear this right? That the United States Military has the authority to arrest and hold U.S. citizins and ship them the a FEMA camp with no expliation? If so, this is Majorly corrupt and un-constitutional.Something needs to be done about this. This is NOT the AMERICA I've grown to know and love.. Sad, really...

Andrew McCarthy is a former US Attorney (prosecuted the first World Trade Center Bombers) and a legal scholar. He said yesterday that the way the statute has been written, it does not apply to US citizens here in the United States.

In looking at various statutes regarding gun control and having them explained by several lawyers on this forum, I already realize that I don't know how to interpret "lawyerese". I would suggest that many of the folks who are screaming about this don't know how to interpret it either.

I've also heard, from folks who say they've read the statutory language, that this reiterates other statutes elsewhere in the US Code and, as such, is bad law, whether it does what everyone is screaming about or not. I really can't make up my mind about it, but since it hasn't been signed into law - unlike ObamaCare, which everyone seems to have forgotten about already - I'm willing to wait until it gets a hearing in Congress before I go ballistic and start losing my firearms to boating accidents in Lake Monroe or the Geist Reservoir.

I have looked at the bill and from what I can tell it does not apply to Citizen anymore then the laws already on the books. I have read that there is another version of the bill or something that does say that. But every time I look at the bill posted online it does not say what people seem to think it does.

keep in mind I am just not a lawyer. I just try to interpret things as best as I can.

Sure it doesn't apply to citizens.

    It only applies to Terrorists.

Now, tell me who the terrorists are.

Exactly my point. It only applies to citizens that happen to be aligned or are accused of being aligned with AQ or with a suspected terrorist group and MIGHT be supporting them in some way, shape, or form.

It places into law something that was unwritten before, namely the fact that the military has first dibs on detaining suspected american citizen terrorists. But now that it is effectively being put into code, it helps establish something for case law to be built upon, namely Gitmo detainees (even though they are not US citizens, just civilians).

Recent guidelines (still trying to find supporting information on this one), had DOJ revising what and who could be suspected for having terrorist ties. (Things such as stockpiling food, weapons, et al)

Having case law put into effect, builds a very narrow gap between the two.

Don't worry, I'm sure no one with EVER abuse this power. I mean, we'll always have restrained responsible people in positions of power, right?

I'm sure no one would use a part of the executive branch of government for political gain.

That would be ridiculous, like someone using the IRS to intimidate their opponent. Just crazy talk... :n00b:
