Holy cow! They found a Klingon Bat'leth in England!

(I'm a geek for knowing the name. Had to check the spelling, though.)

England is an absolute crap hole for self defense rights and weapons. I don't know why anyone lives there anymore. I would move away. The population is unarmed and forced to be victims. I think it will only be a matter of decades at most that we are really going to see some hardcore tyranny over there (people disappearing, political oriented violence etc.) That country is cursing towards another civil war or collapse. They are in just as bad financial shape as us, pretty much. They are living FAR out of their means, borrowing money just as we are to run their failed socialists experiment. I will enjoy having the last laugh when we watch it all fall apart over there. (then again, we might be in the same situation over here sooner : ( )

Yeah, its illegal to carry a knife or bladed instrument of any kind in the UK. In addition, there is actually a crime that is something along the lines of "inspiring fear of a gun" in someone.

Little old lady fired a toy cap gun in the night to scare off intruders, (thats sad enough on its own,) and then was prosecuted and convicted for making the intruders "fear a gun."

Don't remember the exact wording, but I'm sure someone will come along and elaborate shortly.

One older gentleman who lived in the country was home one night when his house was burgled. He shot and killed one intruder with a legally owned shotgun, and wounded the other. He was convicted of manslaughter, (would've been murder if he hadn't bargained with an INSANITY plea,) and classified as a "danger to burglars," and now the surviving burglar is suing him for "injuries caused while on the job."

Its f-ing ridiculous over there. You see people on forums talking all macho about how they'd defend their home with the air-rifle they keep under the bed....not only is that wildly ineffective, but you'll get in more trouble than the "criminal."

In addition, something like 53% of burglaries in the UK occur while people are home, versus here in the US its down near 10% I believe. Can you imagine that? Criminals are just brazen enough to walk right in while your home; because what are you going to do about it? Can't shoot them, stab them, hit them, or even scare them without becoming a criminal yourself.

    Sad sad place over there....

Sounds like no gun was needed.

Over twenty people could not, or would not, stop the three guys doing the beating?! I suspect, even if all twenty bystanders DID have guns, no one would have gotten involved.

+1 to the girlfriend. Probably the only one there with cajones.

Because real life, is not like the movies.

Oops. Good thing I didn't run afoul of the law over there. I had a Leatherman attached to my belt (OC) during our entire England trip. Don't want to spend time in a horrible British prison for "inspiring fear of a screwdriver."

Reasons I do not want to travel in England #7. You'd have to carry something that wasn't OBVIOUSLY a weapon in order to be "armed." Assuming "armed" means carrying some sort of force multiplier.

Just pretend to be sore in one leg and carry a nice heavy cane.

I'm sitting here reading this thread with a pistol in my pocket, and realize that my English brothers can't even legally have a knife in their pocket. I can't believe that the English sheepies have allowed this to happen!

Oh but don't worry; the government will protect them. Didn't you know? There are enough policemen over there to have one officer assigned to every subject....they're perfectly safe!

Oh, wait, thats not true....their police are as understaffed, underpayed, and under-motivated as many of ours are. Nevermind...

i've read several reports and one of the firearms of choice was a derringer blank gun. they used to be able to get them cheap and easily, but they've cracked down on importing them. they would just machine a block of steel to replace the barrels on the derringer. easily concealed, easily made, throw away, and untraceable.

I still don't understand how someone could be shot in England. It's illegal for virtually the entire population to own or use a firearm. If they don't exist, how can one be used?

    (snark)

This is the exact argument I use to defend the 2nd. I also think it's funny to look at the crime stats... the states that don't allow owning/carrying are usually in the higher end of the scale!.

    oh, and :+1:

I have been into collecting Martini action .22 target rifles lately. They are the coolest rifles and are my favorite to shoot at the range. It is especially painful to search the internet and read all of those posts of people in the UK who have chopped their 50-100 year old target rifles into parts because they couldn't keep them, but could keep and sell the parts. Those rifles are as close to indestructible as it comes in normal use. Abject legal stupidity is what finally does them in. It really brings one close to tears when one considers the time, skill, and materials that went into their creation. All that history destroyed for absolutely no reason. Pitiful. I have seriously entertained the notion of purchasing and importing (i.e. rescuing) some, but the fees and the paperwork appear to make the prospect untenable.
