I would agree with anyone who is saying 9mm. Most platforms are making reasonably priced guns in 9mm. Taurus makes some good ones and even some of the S&W guns are pretty inexpensive. Cheap ammo is good through most online venders or gun shows. Also, I'm told that Gander Mountain runs some sales every now and again that are pretty good for ammo.

I guess it mostly depends on what you want to do with it...if you just want to shoot at a range or just plinking in general, any .22 would be perfect. Tons of fun to have...and you can shoot all day for pretty darn cheap

CZ 52, 7.62x25, about 10 cents a round to shoot. Around 1650 fps, large fire ball, recoil between a .357 and .44 mag. Very fun to shoot, and a really cool gun for being made in the early 50s, with it's delayed roller locked breech, similar to a H&K 91/93.

Thanks to all who replied - I guess I should have made it clear in the original post that I wasn't looking for my ~first~ handgun - I have .22, 380, 9mm, 40, 45, long guns, etc to shoot. I was really looking for something different and I think it's exactly the CZ52 Dave here suggested, and it's on my real short list.

    Thanks again!

I agree Hi-Point is not a bad way to go. I have had my C9 for about 3 years now and have not had any problems with it. Plus the Lifetime warranty is nice to have just in case.
I have had a Hi Point 45 for about a year and a half and just got a 9mm carbine about a month ago. I have been having so much fun going through cheap ammo that I have been considering trading my .45 for a C-9.

Yeah, I'm currently reading through all the info on the ATF's site about the 03 FFL. I'm going to get it filled out and start the process to get mine.

I think what he was meaning (not trying to put words in malern's mouth) is that with the C&R license you can purchase C&R guns on your own, many of which are pretty inexpensive, straight from the importer.

You did just fine clarifying my statement. Thank you.
