.357/.38 In my opinion. For all around use from hunting to self defense to plinking.

Yep. You can carry lighter, hotter rounds for SD in a snubby on your ankle or heavier lead rounds out of a 6" for blasting hogs and everything in between.I'd say 357/38 is the only answer
Ditto...great round! My personal favorite is the Hornady 158 Grain JHP XTP in .357mag...very accurate from a 4" barrel! The other round I like is the Hornaday 140 grain FTX from a 2.25" barrel...definitely snappy!
