Groundhogs and woodchucks are mean, and will attack at the slightest human interaction. I shoot them at any opportunity I can get. :D

My dad and I always used his 22-250 as our grounghog gun.

That's what we use too, very effective and you can keep a distance and not frighten them back into their burrows.

Unlike what GregBuckingham said ground hogs are scarety cats. :stickpoke:

Ever think of making groundhog salad after your kill? Don't knock it if you haven't tried it......tastes just like chicken salad!...seriously. Little darker look, but that is it. Spread that on a cracker....Mmmmm! One of those Deer Camp Specials. Look forward to it every year.

    Best Regards,

I use a .22lr. Used remington subsonics last year and it worked pretty well, but I am looking for another round to use that gives more consistent expansion.

If you reload, 22-250 would be ideal. You can range it up or down as you need for different situations. Deer to squirrel.

Yeah, I'd go with the 5.56. Plenty available, pretty cheap, rifles aplenty. Trying to remember what it was in my yard a couple of years ago, wasn't a groundhog; it had teeth and claws, looked like a nightmare Satan would have. I left the gate open so it could get out and never saw it again, but I'd've taken an AR to it if it hadn't left. Didn't look good to eat, too much evil.

No stripes, just brown, but there were lots of sharp points and it was making this sinister ticking noise at me. I didn't want to encourage it too much. I didn't want to lose a leg or something.
