I work downtown and am always looking to find new places to eat a great lunch that aren't chains. Please post your favorites, what you like to eat there, and any additional info you want to share. (Price, wait time, type of clientel, etc...)
I'll start off with a new place I just found this past Friday:
Maxine's Chicken & Waffles
Don't let the location (shares a building with a gas station) or the lack of an expensive dining room decor fool you, (definitely no need to 'dress up') this place is GREAT! I had a burger (the "Uncle Henry") that was awesome. It comes with American cheese, applewood bacon and BBQ sauce. The fries tasted great, crisp and hot, and with a hint of some seasoning on them. I had gone to the bathroom to wash up before sitting down and so the waitress missed my table for a moment. She apologized and brought me a free chicken wing to eat while I waited for my order! The wing was good, and I've been told by my co-workers that they also love the place. I will definitely go back!
The price is typical for downtown, it was about 10 bucks for my lunch with water to drink.
I can't wait to try their peach butter and cornbread!
Oh, and I was told by co-workers that if you order the chicken it can take a little bit because they are frying it up on-demand for you, it takes a bit to get the chicken golden brown when it's done fresh and done right!
Give it a try!
