I carry an FNP .45 in a crossbreed supertuck as well and get along with it just fine. The pros of the double stack 14+1, DA/SA, and performance completely outweigh any cons that I can think of.
The Firestar M-45 is one of the smallest all steel pistol but hard to find ,more common to find them in 9mm & 40 cal. Controls are placed similar to the 1911 also
On Gunbroker I have seen Smith & Wesson mod 457 .45s sell fairly inexpensively. I used to have one of them back in the 90s, and I miss it. Will probably replace it someday, it was a good shooter and not too big, so if you,re open to a used and discontinued , model you might check them out. I just thought about it as I was reading your thread. There are many other good suggtestions people have posted. It's great to have so many choices in the land of the free.
Just to throw in something different. I traded for a Bersa Thunder UC 45 recently. I have really enjoyed shooting it and have been somewhat surprised with its performance. It's very concealable.
