AgreeI have a Magpul MOE+ grip. I think the paint wouldn't hold up on the rubberized surface very well. I'd assume most polymers would be fine though.
Word of caution. I rattlecan'd my second AR with a custom scheme that I thought was neat last summer. Over the winter, it started bothering me. Trying to undo it is not as much fun as the doing of it.
Was it acrylic paint? If so I found that isopropyl alcohol works well for removing paint from plastic with little risk of damageWord of caution. Matte or flat clear is available as well to cut down the sheen.A couple coats of matte clear toughens up the finish but adds a bit of sheen.
And it makes it more of a mess to remove.
