Scar 17 seems to be teh best .308 on the market.

for AR style the LMT MWS has a solid rep and is cheaper than manny of the other options. The Larue rifles are solid, but the fluted chamber is hard on brass, a consideration if you reload. The armalite is built like a mill spec AR type rifle and as such don'e expect great accuracy, DPMS will be hit or miss. Piston rifles are definatley a buyer be ware type deal

Are you wanting a harder hitting round for closer work, or wanting something that will reach out further?

Colt is supposed to come out with a .223/.308 modular carbine. The concept is interesting.

You could buy that then give us the good, bad, and the ugly.

    AR style=buffer tube.

This is the huge downfall of the .308 AR. The .223 isn't that hard to pull, but the .308 is another story.

I had a scoped .308 DPMS with bull barrel and it was a bear to charge.

Would your budget be $1,500 by chance? Just a shot in the dark.

How about you start two threads with that last post you have there?

How about more criteria for your budget and expectations of the rifle? Goals you have while shooting it?

Or do you plan on just "collecting" for the sake of collecting?

If your looking to just collect an AR 10, and price isn't a big deal look at:
    LWRC
    LMT
    H&K
    Larue
    Remington Sr-25
Sig sauer (don't know when it's coming out)
All these are around $3000 and up.

Are you familiar with .300BLK?? Its a .308 bullet in a .223 case that can be shot from the standard AR-15 sized platform. Might be worth looking into.

ar10 is a great weapons platform. US Army Snipers as well as many SF have access to different versions of this weapon. I would recommend just building your own to your specs. So many parts out there and ARs are very easy to put together. I might have to make one my next project.
