Well, to make a long story short, a co-worker and I had a disagreement. The co-worker made it violent, I struck back to stop the attack, and then walked away. The co-worker was charged with assault/battery. I received no charges. The whole thing was caught on video tape.

Today, I was fired for "violence in the workplace".

    I haven't hit anyone since I was 11.

    So, now, I need work.

Intelligent 29 year old seeks employment. Will not let people assault him, and stand there like a sheep while they do so. Has won multiple awards for guest service, has excellent work record, with no write-ups or blots, with commendation for working double-shift during busy Christmas season. Friendly and outgoing personality. Likes firearms and advocating responsible citizenship.

Have to agree with everyone else. Get a lawyer and sue the bejeezus out of your former employer, if possible. It's going to be tough considering Indiana's an at will state. It's worth a go, tho. You could also go after the guy who assaulted you, since he caused you to lose your job. Pain and suffering can be lucrative. :D

You might also post your field of employment. That would help potential employers.

    Tribal Casino, my friends.

Wrongful Termination in violation of Public Policy suits wouldn't go over so well...

Tribes have sovereign immunity, and state laws and public policies don't apply to them.

You could still go after the other guy... not that he's going to be worth much.

Just curious, but which casino in Indiana is tribal? Since it is tribal, IN's "at will employment" may not take affect, and you may hav ea wrongful termination case.

The casino is Four Winds Casino, in New Buffalo, MI. I live just across the border in Indiana.

    your location?

    salary REALISTICLY desired?

i am in need of GOOD people.

I am in Michigan City, Indiana.

Salary isn't very important to me. I never have been one who places a lot of value on being monetarily rich. I just want to have a warm roof over my head, and an occasional hot meal in my stomach. If you like a dollar figure, I have been earning about 17 dollars an hour as a table games dealer. I can be happy on more and less.

My experience is customer service, surveillence, and mid-level computer related. I can do damn near anything after being shown how.

I have the ability to obtain other employment in the casino industry, but I have been doing this for about 7 years (in Arizona and here), and I am tired of selling "false dreams". My work has consisted of watching some good folk lose their homes and families, chasing that "big score". While I agree that it is their choice to do so, I am not so sure I want to be a part of it anymore.

What kind of business do you have. I have a 19 year old son that is looking for a job.

jobs available are in retail and shipping and recieving. pay starting out isn't too good. but there are great chances to advance. work ethic gets you anything you want.

again, the pay doesn't START great. but it all rests on YOU to get yourself the pay you deserve. i started at the bottom, right at 4 months ago. i have been promoted twice, and even turned down a promotion before i took this one.

i guess a decade of killing myself for NO respect paid off in my next career. i came in with a high drive to make everyone my lacky in a low impact job!! and so far............. :)

Hire a lawyer. Sue your former employer for failing to protect you against the violent assault of their employee. Sue them for the emotional distress, and psychological damage you have suffered. I'm certain you are jumpy, having trouble sleeping, etc. The doc recommended by your lawyer will be able to perform a full eval, but PTSD is nothing to mess with, and your former employer's negligence shouldn't be ignored.

Or, perhaps settlement can be reached where-in they agree to apologize, re-hire you, and adopt policies that do not create victims, unlike their current stance against lawful self defense.

Edit: Being tribal just means you go to federal court, instead of state. They are not immune.

Joe has a good point here, all so letting the news papers in (or the threat) may open up the settlement possibilities. You only defended yourself, you should not be punished for that.

Not to be negative by any means, but if the settlement involves re-hiring you all they will do is wait for you to mess up the the slightest bit and then terminate you for that. I do agree if you can sue I would go for it.

If you DO get a lawyer, and you DO decide to file suit, make sure your lawyer DEMANDS a copy of that security tape!
