ARs weren't available for purchase till 2004?

    What?

    Wasn't it early 60s?

And I know my FIRST was bought in 94, just before the AWB.
Like most anti-gun solutions, MORE people bought them because of the anti-gunners.

And I LOVE telling this story to anti gunners.
Before the AWB I had less than zero interest in ARs. Never even considered them.

Then the AWB hit and I was like "Meh. Big deal. I dont want one anyway." Then they discussed the bill sunsetting and I thought "Gee, I wonder what the big deal is? Since they are coming legal again, I wonder if I need one?"

Then I was made a deal I couldnt refuse at Bradis for a Windham Bushmaster XM-15 (post ban). I happened to be in there after work the day after a gun show. He showed me the AR and said "[insert ridiculously low price, even by today's standards] today only, cash only. We bought it at the show and the guy said it was used, but we cant tell. Less than a box of shells through it as best we can tell. Just want to move it. You interested? " My response? "Yes. gotta run to the ATM. BRB"

I was hooked. I credit the AWB for making it impossible for them to ban them ever again. If it werent for the AWB, I dont think many people would have been interested. It wasnt until they were made forbidden fruit for a while that many people finally took notice of them.

In '94 I wasn't much into guns. I didn't not like them, it was just that I didn't have any interest in them. It was because of this ban I bought my first -- an SKS. (I wish I'd bought a crate of those things).

On a Tim Pool video about the Allen TX shooter, I commented that the mall was a Gun Free Zone, with 30.06 signs up.

Someone said, the laws don't work when you can buy guns like candy.

You know, cause making drugs illegal has worked so well.

It's like when they say guns should be more regulated than a woman's body. And you say women need to be locked up when not in use?
Or she needs a background check before a date?
    etc.

Or that guns should be regulated by cars, and cars are regulated.
So we need to start criminal background checks before purchase?
Or licensing needs to have a background check?
    etc.
