New assault rifle being sold to civilians is twice as powerful as the AR-15 and capable of shooting through bulletproof vests, report says.

SIG Sauer's MCX-SPEAR can fire bullets with twice the kinetic energy of an AR-15 The Daily Beast reported. I'm assuming that they are referring to the .227 Fury (6.8 x 51) round that was initially offered. Sigs Website doesn't even list that rifle let alone in that caliber anymore.

This is just another scare tactic by the gun grabbing fear mongers. Even if these were widely commercially available, I don't think your average evil criminal individual with a penchant to commit murder would be able to afford an MSRP $7999 price tag let alone the cost of the .227 Fury round. (That's if they can even find it readily commercially available). To commit mass murders with.

Just stop with the bull**** already.

Would .227 Fury be any more powerful than 7.62x51?

"It'll shoot through almost all of the bulletproof vests worn by law enforcement in the county right now," Ryan Busse, a former firearms company executive now a senior policy analyst with the Giffords Law Center Gun ban group),told the outlet.
    Consider their source.

His statement is basically true about the cartridge though. But there have been calibers that have doubled the power of the 223/556 for a very long time.

Just more fear mongering from the media.

Also the original source article that this article came from is the Daily Beast so consider that anti-gun fear mongering rag source as well.

I love how the "media" always says "it will penetrate bullet proof vests"...well duh....vests are designed for stopping handgun calibers, which most criminals use.....Most cops are not going to wear ballistic plates, that are capable of stopping higher power rifles rounds......(we know these things!)

If you load 155gr match bullets in a 308-win there isn't much difference in power. Out past 700yds the 277 would take over because it has better BC than the 155gr 30 caliber match bullet. However, the difference would not be much until around 1000yds and farther when it really starts making a difference.

    Minus 200fps for a 16" barrel.

Ballistics out of a 16" barrel at 2760 fps 155gr Sierra MK 10mph wind 95 degrees.
50yd zero which is basically a 200yd zero.

There are cartridges chambered in semi autos that nearly triple the power of the .223/5.56. Most of which are more available and less expensive than the Spear.

Fear mongering for sure. Those morons all think that .223/5.56 is so powerful or at least claim it is. Apparently someone found out there are more powerful cartridges afterall and couldn't wait to try to start a panic.

*10 rounds of “turn a body inside out” :lmfao: My buddy has a Barrett. I could shoulder fire it, but it’s so freaking heavy you’re not going to be accurate.

Is it fear mongering or a really slick marketing campaign? Every time the media yells "ohmygoodness" whatever theyre upset about seems to sell really well.
People are so mind numbed to the stupid it has become an addiction. They sit in huddled groups by the big flat screen with baited breath waiting on the next greatest thing to be outraged over. They all need a steady diet of outrage.

People really need to spend much less time consuming ********. It really makes life better! It’s no wonder mental illness and depression run amuck anymore, people are fed a steady diet of how horrible everything is and then turn to social media lies about how much your life sucks compared to your peers.
