This is the new to me wheel weight chunker.

Looks like the projectile of choice will be a paper patched 280 grain hollow point seeing as the mold was got for half price too.
Got the rifle, the original butt plate, Hornady dies, two sets of rings, four boxes of brass, a box of Barnes triple shocks, half a box of Hornady's all together in a package for the happy new year.
The three inch long cases don't meet with the 1.8 reg but something may work out. :)

Just looked those up. That's a fantastic price for a new Ruger No.1 at CDNN.

I feel like the cartridge could benefit from a bit more barrel length though.

I always thought the 9.3X74R was a fairly soft shooting round, on of my favorite medium bores. With a 270gr JSP and 56grs of IMR 4064 it is a great round out of my double rifle...

    So let's see...
if the paper patched are breech seated, a consumable capsule of powder loaded followed by primed brass that's trimmed to 1 3/4", does it satisfy the 1.8 reg?

Damn if that doesn't look like a ton of fun! It would be oodles of fun just casting and loading up those monsters just to see the hunk of lead fly downrange.

You most likely will find that space of air between the bullet and the powder charge will cause a bunch of problems. Well most likely just once it will be a problem.

A Ruger No3 in 45/70 using brass trimmed to 1.8 might do better for Indiana deer

    Ugh, just get a #1S.
Better looking and easier to find (and maybe same cost or cheaper LOL).

I thought about a #3 in .44 mag ni #1 wood but the bbl front sight looks hideous.....would need some work.
By the time that gets done, might as well have just bought a donor #1 and had it rebarrelled.

I read an article once about making brass cased .410 shot shells out of 9.3x74R brass. Seemed like an expensive proposition to me.

I see no situation where that's an economically sensible project.

I always wanted a Ruger No.1 in .303 British, but I don't think they ever made one in that caliber with a Mannlicher style stock which is how I'd want it. I could be wrong though.

I was considering getting a .410 shotgun with a rifled barrel because of the Indiana 1.8 reg.
A 3" long brass and a close to 300 grain "slug" would be just fine.
No doubt it could have been made to work as well as a six inch barrel revolver.

    Use a filler.

You will see breach seating mostly within the Schuetzen shooting crowd, both black and smokeless is used in low pressure small case cartridge's they shoot.
You gotta be careful even with low pressure rounds, i shutter when i think about what can go wrong when hitting 30 to 40+ thousands psi, not me..
And i believe if breach seating worked well in larger cases the BPCR crowd with have gone that road years ago.

Man thats a toughie, I have seen many for sale in 303, but never with a mannlicher stock.. Heck I have never seen to many mannlicher's to begin with.
