I need to add that this is why LEOs shoot people with knives.

If I'm not mistaken, if the attacker had a piece of wood in his hand - he would have been shot on the spot. No questions asked.

Did anyone else watch all of it? After the guy was wounded, he got roughed up a bit.

According to the comments, this occured in Nicaragua on February 15, 2006. It says that only one Police officer died (four wounded). The attacker died three hours later.

According to the audio, the lady being interviewed was the GF (of 5 years with 1 year of separation) of the man. She wanted nothing to do with him anymore but he didn't want to let her go and was threatening her. His threats finally became serious against her (and her current boyfriend) in the days prior to this event. She told the reporter that she owns a gun but that she only owns it to defend herself, not to kill people:dunno:. From what she was saying, it sounds like the man wanted to die, but not by his own hand. From her account it sounds like he was daring her to defend herself. She didn't want to shoot (kill) him and she didn't want to be killed. That is why she went to the police compound.

Those Keystone Kops should have used their firearms.. problem could have been solved in 30 seconds.. instead, they have many wounded and one dead?

    Real smart!

They definitely should've trained with mercop. At the training I took this weekend we did the 21 foot drill. The knife men were never able to put meaningful cuts on those with airsoft G17s and that was with a draw from concealment.

Remember, you KNEW it was coming. I used to do the Tueller drill with my students and could routinely get 75 feet before they could draw and shoot from concealment... KNOWING it was coming.

The REALLY bad thing here is, these morons knew it was coming too. He already had the knife out and had apparently previously stated that he wanted to die. They should have resolved the issue when the knife came out... :ar15:

It comes down to poor training...if any at all. Action ALWAYS trumps reaction. Nice to see the community so involved in helping the wounded officers. Sadly, in may communities local, we cannot count on that kind of help. When Dave was shot (and later died) there were people watching him in the snow and did NOTHING. He was dying as they were just watching.

After the encounter, when the camera goes next door to the (?)school(?), what are the shots heard there?

The Seattle Police Department need to send some trainers down to Nicaragua.

Seriously though, backing an unbalanced, jealous, jackwagon with a deathwish into a corner while he's brandishing a 12" kitchen knife? What did they expect his reaction would be?

By the looks of it, they expected to close in on him and put out their hand, believing that the guy would hand over the knife & surrender.

Can't believe the officer with the ak took his eyes off of the killer to bend down and pick up the stick his buddy threw over to him... what the heck was that!

At a minimum, if they were looking for an arrest they should have put a round in the guy's pelvis to put him down before approaching him.

The killer looked to be in decent shape after it was over; wonder how he would up dead three hours afterwards. :dunno:

Hmm, dunno. Did you see the emergency medical responders? It's gotta be high tech when their reaction was to chuck the injured people in the back of an open pickup truck.

Wow, that was hard to watch only because it was so full of fail. Those officers looked like "average joes" out there running around trying to escape that guy.

They are average joes that don't know any better... Most of the other cops were either already recruited by or shot by drug cartels. Hopefully Mexico doesn't trace the knife back to the US.

Anyone translate the video? That was a nasty encounter... do you guys think the guy with the knife knew what he was doing with it or just got lucky?

    Hopped up on yayo?

Can't be sure, but I would guess he didn't know what he was doing. It looked like a superb display of combat aggression coupled with an utter lack of fear.

The guy with the AK certainly dropped the ball.

I don't think in terms of how law enforcement is handled in Latin America, that what happened would count as "roughed up."
