...Anyone else here ever deal with a ref who abused his power and said things he shouldn't on the field knowing he could do it? I have and that dude deserved to get hit for doing that to kids. I'm not afraid to say it.

Care to elaborate on what the ref in question said?
The tone of your comments makes it sound like you endorse hitting referees. Perhaps you'd like to clarify?
Are you saying, that there's never been a time that you thought, "someone should punch that guy in the mouth," based solely on that person's language? You're a better man than I if you haven't.
Sure I have, but "thinking it" in the moment is one thing, "actually doing it" is another, "still thinking it" months later is another thing still...and referencing it months/years later on INGO, to diminish the importance of a completely-unrelated example of thug behavior, is yet another thing still. I'd have more respect for the viewpoint if he said he took action through proper channels to hold that referee accountable for his actions towards kids. That would show an attempt to be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem (and actually prevent that person from doing it to more kids). But no such information is forthcoming, so we're left with what we have.
Every minute that you are in charge of kids, you make a decision to be part of the problem, or part of the solution. The poster in question took exception to a statement questioning whether sports promote good character. Well, somebody once said that "Sports don't build character - they reveal it." I would probably have to agree with that statement. Kids' sports are sorta like guns - they are not automatically good or bad, and can do either good or harm, depending on the character of the people holding the whistle/gun and doing the "doing," if you know what I mean.
There's such a thing as having control over your emotions. You cannot model that for kids by doing the opposite. The last thing the world needs is more hot-head NFL wannabes in charge of kids.
I don't agree with anything you said. I don't think JDT is coming out in support of the poor actions of those kids, I just think he's being realistic, in that sometimes when people popped in the mouth for saying something stupid, others may think...."well, he kinda deserved that." I'm pretty sure that if a group of bikers put the best down on the WBC while they were protesting a funeral, most here would think they had it coming. And in that case we're talking about adults, not 15 to 18 year old kids, who notoriously make bad decisions.
SO, someone SAYS something you don't like, and you think they DESERVE to be hit (Battery)? What's the next step, shooting (murdering) someone who looks at you funny?
So 2 people with pads hitting each other, perfectly fine, hell get a running start at each other.
2 people in pads taking separate hits at someone without pads, battery
I'm sure if someone called you a pedophile and a dealer in kiddie porn you'd just laugh it off.
I had a couple coaches in football a lot of us didn't like, there were several occasions during drills that they'd get caught up in the cluster. Adrenaline flowing, emotions high, thing happen. Seen it, did it, we all lived with it.
I'm still with jd on this one. Did they take the best methods and action? Nope. Do they deserve to be suspended form high school sports? Yup. Do they deserve to have felony charges and the rest of their lives tainted by this? No. If the ref was a dick....maybe he should learn not to be a dick
This happened it Texas.
If the above video occurred on the street, and the ref was armed, what would have been the likely outcome?
If it had been a parent, or other adult, instead of a player, what would be the likely result?
wearing the same color shirt as 10 other people on the field doesn't absolve you of responsibility for your actions.
Pads or not, spearing is a no no.
Doing so well after a play.......way worse.
Doing it to a ref?
I can't believe how some of you supposed responsible gun owners make excuses for this crap.
Many public schools are void of respect and discipline, are merely holding tanks/babysitters so they get gov money.
I bet the two football players in question weren't the only ones causing trouble on or off the field.
My gal is a teacher. Shes had a few students murdered, and other former students in jail for murder.
There is a definite pattern of behavior and it shows rather early.
Your's and my definition of being a "Dick" is not at all like the kids today see this. Any slight or imagined slight is in the disrespect category and is acted upon.
Now really, Ref is not looking. He gets floored and then speared. Tell me how you all would react to this and what you would expect. He could have been grievously injured.
Spearing is against the rules for a good reason, it is dangerous even to a full pads players hence....."No Spearing"
This would be considered assault off the field. Why any different on the field. They openly attacked a non-combatant. Bad choice. Bad choices get you in trouble.
What does the ref want to happen. I will wager he is seriously pissed off.
Was he a "Dick" .......so what. That does not mean he gets blindsided (twice) and then speared.
So 2 people with pads hitting each other, perfectly fine, hell get a running start at each other
PART OF THE GAME, PER THE RULES!
2 people in pads taking separate hits at someone without pads, battery
NOT PART OF THE GAME, AGAINST THE RULES, AND IF DONE MALICIOSLY - BATTERY
I'm sure if someone called you a pedophile and a dealer in kiddie porn you'd just laugh it off.
?????????????????????????????????????????? If someone has calked you that, I'd take a serious look in the mirror

THIS JUSTIFIES NOTHING
