Obama live on CNBC just said he is giving a "law enforcement" grant of 2 billion through the office of homeland security to increase police over time,and add officers in needed areas.

Anyone have any more foil? I am fresh out at this point.
Ps.the dow went from +5 to -30 after he started speaking...it is now 6537.

What happens when the funds run out?

The money is being funneled from the federal budget to the states and then to local departments. This is a temporary type of funding and not an ongoing budget item. What it does is it creates a FUTURE unfunded mandate that allows federal powers to expand. Clinton did this same thing. Pass down money to hire more police officers and pay their salaries THIS year. But NEXT year the local governments have to come up with the money for these NEW officers. They will either raise taxes or turn back to the federal government for more funding. It becomes a situation where we become DEPENDENT upon federal funds. When we depend on federal funds then we become enslaved to the money and we give more and more power to the federal government because their money comes with all sorts of strings attached.

You see I am used to being poked at because of where I'm from, not my color. All the same though prejudice comes in all forms. I can see your prejudice toward me and the city from whence I hale. That's okay because in a free nation such as ours you are free to express you own opinion.

I'm also shaken by your comment about checking with my chief. Last time I checked I was a public servant, not a public slave. As such I still have the right to free speech along with my opinion and I will exercise that right just the same as you.

Anyway back to topic. We don't need his putting billions into law enforcement. Somebody pays and once those new guys are hired some tax payer either picks up the tab or the new guy gets laid off. Let the armed citizen alone and as has been proven in areas with heavy numbers in concealed carry permits, the crime rate drops.

It is unacceptable for a police officer to represent him/herself as such, and then post on a public message board using racial terms to belittle someone. There are plenty of reasons to criticize Obama without stooping to such levels. Half-breed? That's an ugly term, and clearly has only one purpose - to put someone down because of mixed heritage. Have you ever heard the term "half breed" used in any other context? I haven't.

I only referenced Martinsville because you work for Martinsville PD. I've got nothing against Martinsville, actually I have been there several times, as I go target shooting in a gravel pit just south of town off of Mahalasville Road. People there have always been friendly when I have stopped to get lunch or get gas.

Call Obama a damned commie pinko, call him a dirty socialist, call him out for his actions and anti-American views on the 2nd Amendment. But don't attack the man's race. I'm a new poster, true. I've read the boards for a long time, though. I love talking and reading about guns, politics and the 2nd Amendment, and I certainly didn't join just to dog you. I joined to be part of the community of gun owners. I'm not shy, though, and if I see something that seems wrong, I'll respond to it.

And as far as the original topic - I don't agree with hiring more officers or firefighers with the money, because of the lack of funds to retain them after the federal money stops coming. But if they are going to print money out of thin air anyway, they might as well give some to public safety agencies to buy new equipment and supplies to do their jobs more effectively. I don't agree with "print and spend," but obviously the government doesn't care what you and I think.
