For Sale Only, No Trades
Up for consideration is a Peabody & Martini, Creedmoor rifle produced in the late 1870’s. It was build for and during the time of the Creedmoor Rifle Range. The range was located on Long Island in what is now Queens Village, Queens, New York.
Everything on this rifle appears to be original, including the front site, other than the barrel. The barrel was replaced in 1947 as noted by the gunsmith who applied the date, his initials and the corresponding serial number to the barrel under the forearm. The update is a perfect fit to the original fore stock keeping with its original length and diameter. It is chambered in .38-55 which is still relatively easy to find. As many things back then…. the work was well done.
The original serial number marking 331 can be seen on multiple other parts of the rifle. #331 of roughly 1000 produced. The case coloring and craftsmanship of this rifle is absolutely beautiful. Let me know if you’d like to see it in person, want more pictures or have an offer. Thanks!
