To add to what some of the others wrote . . .
Shooter521 is indeed correct that the technique arose in the 3-gun/multi-gun/practical rifle competition world. As with many other techniques, it was developed to get better results, tested by time, and it's the current winner. Maybe someone will...
RESCHEDULED FOR 26 DECEMBER 2009
To all attending the ACT DP205 "low light techniques" class on Saturday 24OCT09:
Below are 1) my intended schedule for Saturday and 2) a gear list. I apologize for the delay in getting this information to you. If you have any questions, please contact me via...
I sent the results about an hour ago, so everyone should have them by now.
I learned some stuff today. I've shot a lot of matches wearing a concealment garment, but today I tried it using my IWB holster in the appendix position. The draw and presentation is a bit different (and slower)...

We'll be ending no later than 2200 hrs. That's when we told the conservation club we'd stop the shooting!
That should give us a good 2-1/2 or maybe three hours of darkness for live fire drills and then a scenario at the end.

The class is now just a little over a week away (24OCT09). We should be starting at about 1500 in the clubhouse talking about the general principles, lights, how to use them, etc. We'll do some exercises in the clubhouse with blue guns and our lights. After dinner, we'll adjourn to the range...
river ... you have shown some excellent progress since you started shooting with us! I know you're probably your own worst critic, but we've all notice a big improvement. Keep up the good work!
As far as your malfunctions go . . . ??? It could be an overall length issue, the shape (ogive) of...
Joe ... it was good having you join us and I'm glad you return to practical shooting sports was a positive experience for you. We hope to see you again!
Don't forget the USPSA match at RileyCC near Terre Haute on 18OCT09!

I have some thoughts on the actual question here, plus some comments to make about the responses and the issue in general.
First, I'd want to know how old the kid is, how long he's been shooting, what kind of shooting and with what kind of gun. There are multiple legitimate methods for...
Thanks for the inquiry.
Our entire list of classes we currently offer is on our web site (Adaptive Consulting & Training). Here is a list of most of them:

DP201 - Defensive Pistol 201
DP205 - Low Light Techniques
DR101 - Defensive Rifle 101...
We're two weeks away from the class on 24OCT09. If you're considering participating in this class, please contact me soon, especially if I don't know you. No walk-ons will be allowed this time; you must be pre-registered.

How much ammo you need will depend on how much you choose to shoot during the drills (I tend to let students decide within my guidelines how many rounds they will fire on a given drill). Bring at least 300. If it were me, I'd bring more. If you don't use it all it's not a big deal and it's...
I've been shooting since 1994 or so (yeah, I got a late start in life). Over the years, I've accumulated hundreds of hours of classes completed with a variety of both well known and some not so well known instructors. That includes some really good classes geared toward instructor development...
Hey, DrF:
Send email and we can discuss this further. We probably won't do a DR101 for the rest of this year (unless there is significant demand for it), but we could do the equivalent privately or with a small group.

This is an excellent opportunity not just for the subject matter, but also because any time you can spend with John and/or Vickie Farnam (and their assistants) is worth a lot more than they charge for tuition. The Farnams are on my brief list of instructors that I recommend without hesitation...
Good deal.
I have a good idea where you are with respect to handgun skills, but where are you with your rifle? The more I know, the better I can address your needs.

As Coach mentioned, a scheduled class of either DR101 or DR201 before 2010 is unlikely, but doing it individually or in a small group is going to be much easier to arrange, and probably more beneficial to the student.
Here is the gear list for DR101, which is about the same for DR201. The...
Thanks for the info. It was mostly a curiosity thing.
I've still not embraced the pistol-mounted flashlight for my own use on a regular basis, but it's interesting to see some other perspectives and applications beyond illumination.
