I bought it off of Gunbroker.com There are about 6-7 of them on there at any given time, some in better shape than others, and there are a few NIB as well. The prices ranged from about $400-750.
I was lucky and got this one for a steal. $499.00
I am going hunting this weekend, so if I am really lucky and my FFL gets it this weekend I will hunt with it using the stok buck horn sights.
However long term I am torn between a peep sight and possibly putting a red dot scope on it.
Thanks to all of you who gave me feedback and helped me decide on the right rifle for hunting in Indiana.
I went with this Marlin 1894S .44 Mag. I was able to pick up for a pretty damn good price considering it is unblemished and has not been fired.
I look forward to breaking this in.
Yeah I have seen them around, but when I did some research there seems to be some negative vibes about Rossi and their quality.
Thanks again to all of you who have add to this thread!
 Thanks again DBD....You are a walking library of knowledge on firearms.
I think I have settled in on a Marlin 1894 .44Mag I have found several in my price range. Thanks again for all of your feed back. I did look for the Ruger 77/44, but as you mentioned pretty much every one I came...
Okay a quick question.
Marlin makes a .44 lever action in two styles correct?
The .44 Mag which shouts the Remington Magnum (1.285 inch cartridge)
and the Marlin 444ss which shoots a .44 in a much larger cartridge.
Is that correct? Again thanks again. I am trying to get lurnt.
Thank you for squaring me away. Okay so back to the drawing board.
While I have your attention maybe you guys can give me some suggestions. I am looking for a rifle that I can use to hunt both hogs and deer.
I know there is the Marlin 357 and 44, but they are hard to find. So I am open to...

Hello gents,
I am reaching out to you for some insight. I am looking at buying a Marlin 45-70 guide gun from a listing on Ammo List. I have a question for you more experience folks on here.

Thanks for all the offers, but I got in touch with my buddy up in Pendleton yesterday. I got out and put about a hundred rounds down range. She fires straight :) .
JUst an FYI for you .40 owners. Walmart has two good deals going right now..
Winchester 165 gr box of 100 range rounds $28.86
Remington 180 gr hollow point box of 100 $32 and change.
By far the lowest price I could find, and very fast shipping as they are located right in Lexington. Usually can have it next day if you order it before 4:00PM.
Also give you multiple FFL dealers to pick from for transfer. My preferred is Diane up in Westfield. She only charges $10.00.
anyway...
