Well, I imagine he was buying this stuff at the same time was buying old surplus Mitchell's Mausers, Garands, etc. I could see this being the way he was going to "clean" up the bores after age, corrosive ammo, etc. Makes sense.
This product does seem like a dated solution.
Yeah, I understand it's for fire lapping - which is interesting and scary (considering all the other stuff that cruises down the barrel during firing). It's 30-06, so fairly old school caliber for competition guns anymore. Is fire lapping "better" for microgroove rifling? That's interesting...

I understand the purpose of the ammo and...
Are these commercial 7000000 serial Garands any different in quality than the military contract rifles?
I know there were some commercial production M1 Carbines back in the day (Universal?) that have a bad reputation for parts quality, etc. Any similar concerns with these Garands?
I don’t...
Robert - I know it's a bit of work to fill and drill. My concern is that all these old 12's are take downs. I have been unable to find a "replaceable" barrel. I had heard that barrels for these aren't exactly "plug and play" and that's if you can find one. If you know where I can pick one up -...
The empty, threaded hole that’s there is buggered (a bit misshapen with threads a bit stripped) but it’s also off center. At the least, the current hole needs covered up. If a replacement bead were to be added now, I would prefer it be added centered to bore.
Hey all -
I am looking for a good, certified 'smith near Greenwood to quote a fix on a shotgun barrel for me. The previous owner had incorrectly installed a front bead which subsequently "removed itself." The barrel now has an unoccupied, somewhat distorted hole that I'd like patched up. Since...
