We shot 42 shots on a B-29 target turned so we just saw a blank target w/o scoring rings. Perfect score would be 420. Below are my scores.
Iron sights: 388-9X
Red dot: 368-8X I went past the par time on some of the shots
I also wanted to try a laser, so I bought a cheap ($25) one for...
I know you don't focus on the dot. You need to see the dot to use it. There is no time when shooting 6 shots in 2 seconds. That's what I was saying. You are talking semantics.
It can be overcome, to a point. When I'm shooting 6 shots in 2 seconds, I don't have time to look at the iron sights, let alone the red dot. There is no time to look at the dot when firing at those speeds. At least I cannot do that.
At the risk of being misunderstood, most police do not shoot very well. Many only shoot when they need to qualify, once a year. Don't get me wrong, I know there are exceptions and there are many officers that are top competitors. I've shot with both types. The normal LEO does not shoot very well...
I will be 67 this year. My eyes were never great. I started wearing glasses for nearsightedness around age 11. Over 35 years ago my eyesight was measured at 20/2000, without glasses. Recently I asked the eye Dr what it is now and they said they don't measure that high. Off the chart. I wanted to...
Loading 12 gauge shotshells. Just finished 500 rounds of 1 oz loads with 8 shot. I wanted lo load up all those 1oz wads. I switched bars and now I'm loading 1 1/8 oz of 7 1/2 shot. There is a bunny shoot coming up next month; sportinig clays course with all rabbit targets. Those 1 1/8 oz of 7...
I understand. I'm not crazy about the garden gun concept, just reminding folks about the Marlin. Airguns are the answer in or around sheds and other buildings.
I always like using airguns for chipmunks and ground squirrels. If they are < 30 yards, I use a Beeman P1 air pistol (w/ red dot). Over 30 yards, I use my Beeman R-11 air rifle (w/ 18X scope).
One summer day I was plinking with my R-11 on my deck and I noticed some movement by my wood pile. I...
Zero distance depends on what you are shooting and the distances. I have a couple 22lr rifles that I zero at 50 yards. We shoot steel out to 200 meters, beginning at 50 yards. We adjust elevation for the further distances. You need around 30moa to go from 50 yards to 200 meters, depending on the...
I shot IHMSA pistol silhouette for years. We shot big bore at 50, 100, 150, and 200 meters. A rule of thumb I always used was to add 10% to meters to get yards. It is not precise, but get you pretty close.
100 meters ~ 110 yards, but exactly 109.3613 (thru online conversion)
My wife and I have been shooting cowboy action for the past 26 years. I have a Marlin Cowboy (24" oct barrel) and a Rossi 1892 (20" stainless). I got the Rossi for my wife since it is lighter. She still shoots the Marlin more. Mine are in 45 Colt because I wanted SA revolvers in 45 Colt. I...
I have a 725 Sporting. They are great shotguns. Glad you enjoy shotgun shooting. I've been loading a bunch of shotgun shells the past few weeks. My buddies that I used to shoot skeet and trap every week moved, so I have not shot shotgun in about a year. I have some other buddies that want to...
You won't get better by not shooting. The more matches you shoot, the better you will get. You always improve quicker if you are shooting with better shooters.
The biggest problem I've seen with new shooters in Steel Challenge is they try to shoot too fast. Then they miss a lot. Slow down just...
A good alternative to SC is trap and/or skeet. I prefer skeet, but like both. You can shoot a couple rounds of trap/skeet and use fewer rounds than SC and it costs less $5 - $6 per round). You don't always need to try to become a top level competitor. Just shoot local matches and have fun.
Check out a match. Maybe after it's over, they will let you try a stage with someone's guns so you can have some fun too. We do that at our range, when the need arises.
