Getting 9mm to start in competitions. Choosing the right starting pistol

Thank you. I had actually read that somewhere on a "getting started in competition" article but I would have forgotten had someone not reminded me. If you run into me my name is Brandon and here's a pic. I never take selfies but I must've been feeling cocky after my last haircut couple months...

Getting 9mm to start in competitions. Choosing the right starting pistol

I hear ya. I know it's all opinion based but that's what I wanted to hear was more experienced opinions. I gotta say the Glock feels a little thin to me compared to my 1911. I'm hoping this is rectified by some grip changing. This Glock I bought is "used" but it wasn't shot by the guy that...

Getting 9mm to start in competitions. Choosing the right starting pistol

Yeah it was a tough call. I almost went with a Rock Island 1911 9mm with the intent of upgrading it. I think jumping the gun (pun intended) has more to do with being new-ish to the hobby and wanting to get a few platforms in my home to tinker with. I'm all about aftermarket upgrades and I do...

      The Open Carry Argument

Can you elaborate a bit on this for me? To preface my next statement, I am very new to carrying at all and it is very important to me to learn about this part of gun ownership but that looked like an outside the waistband Kydex holster on his belt. That seems pretty open to me. Unless I'm...

      The Open Carry Argument

I don't know. I still think the possibility is remote enough that the power of open carry outweighs the fear of weapon theft. I plan to CC for the most part or, as I've been putting it for now, quasi-CC at the least which will be holsters that are outside waistband but still cover by my...

      The Open Carry Argument

Yes that one. Just to add about situational awareness. I almost brought that up in my own but the truth is that happened in the blink of an eye, the criminal had a phone to their ear, and there was nothing to even hint at anything going down until it happened. I don't fault the carrier one...

Getting 9mm to start in competitions. Choosing the right starting pistol

I appreciate it. I just found out about this match through the forum and will be doing some research to figure out where I'm headed but yes I do plan on coming (with 1911 and 330 rounds in tow)

Getting 9mm to start in competitions. Choosing the right starting pistol

I hear ya. I'm sure it's something I will do eventually but currently the plan is to shoot the cheapest stuff I can get and use the good stuff during the matches. If it's something I excel at and decide to continue (which is more likely than not) then I'll start getting into reloading my...

Getting 9mm to start in competitions. Choosing the right starting pistol

I do not reload and currently don't plan to. Current plan is to just use high end match grade ammo. I actually listen to a podcast that interviews a lot of competition shooters and a good chunk of them don't reload. They just use factory match ammo (usually supplied by their sponsors of course)...

Getting 9mm to start in competitions. Choosing the right starting pistol

So I currently have a Colt 1911 Competition series. 45. The blues with blue grips. Bought it new, love it. However, .45 ammo is crazy expensive and I'd like to start doing some competition shooting and really hone my skills. Thus, a 9mm. I laid away a Glock 34 Gen4 today on the advice of my...

      The Open Carry Argument

This has probably been covered somewhere else in the 300 pages of this topic but to expand on the paragraph about a weapon being stolen: I did recently see a video (covered on some news source and used in a YouTube video to illustrate why not to open carry) of a gentleman in line ordering fast...

      Current LTCH Wait

Started the process about a month ago. Got fingerprinted and everything. I didn't quite realize what my next step was so about a week ago I realized I still needed to go to the local cop shop. Submitted local fee and application changed to "awaiting ISP approval" on 4/15 Still waiting as...
