I agree that scaring them off is a very temporary fix. My relatives had a similar problem and ended up purchasing an ultrasonic bird repeller. Not sure how that would affect your livestock though. You'd have to ask your vet.
Thanks for the complements. As far as durability... I'm not sure. I just did it last week. Although, I'm not too concerned since the amount of paint I used didn't even make a dent in the bottles (the smallest ones I could find) that I purchased. Each color cost like a buck fifty.
