I am hoping the Nosler 150 Ballistic tips pan out, may try the 125's also. I am new to the pistol length 308 scene, read good things about Varget so I plan on starting there.
BJ, I agree on handloading for the Encore. I am suffering from "I just got a new piece and can't wait until my dies and brass and bullets get shipped" panic.
Also interested in where 308 ammo is, as I just bought an Encore 308 pistol and can't find ammo either. It is not a caliber that I am set up to load currently so I checked two Walmart's and Gander Mountain with no success.
I just bought an Encore 308 pistol and can't find any ammo to try it out. Anyone have 20 or so rounds to sell at a reasonable price or know a local shop that has some in stock? I am not a hoarder or reseller, just looking to shoot my new pistol. Thanks, I am in Indianapolis.
I use this knife. Has everything I need for field dressing : cheap, fixed blade with sheath, and bright orange rubber handle for grip and finding in the dark.
Is there any custom made options for a Indiana deer legal cartridge in the Remington 7600? I see they have a 35 remington and 35 Whelen available. Would it be possible to have a barrel made in 358 Hoosier? I don't know much about these guns but I do like the idea of a pump in the woods.
Read Hawbaker, Tom Miranda, Charles Dobbins, and others. Go to trapperman.com, crawled on hands and knees to see the world through the eyes of the target catch, read biology books on prey and their breeding-eating-traveling patterns.
I have not gone past 100 yds. yet. Next trip will be 200 yd range, hopefully with a chrono. It is easily under an inch at 100 yds if I do my part. The admin over at 357maximum.com is using the exact same load. He found a 165 yard zero is +- 3.6 at 100 and 200. His site is great and...
Finally shot the Max today. Very happy with the accuracy so far with AA 1680 and Hornady SSP 180.
5 Shots @ 50 yards -- .643"
4 Shots @ 100 yards -- 1.104"
It fits in my LNL ;). This is actually the reason I bought the LNL over a 550, the fifth hole!
Like mentioned above, LNL does not take any special die, it just has an added feature to quickly change calibers.
Buy one of these and tune it properly, it will virtually eliminate the chance of a squib or double charge (I say virtually because someone must be stupid enough to mess it up, but I can't imagine how).
