You can still use the iPad without the home button. If you place all 5 fingers spread out on the screen and then " pinch" them all, as if zooming in with all fingers, the screen will return to home and the iPad will function as normal.

I agree with the training and becoming more comfortable. You might as well carry a rock if you are carrying without one in the pipe. With the right training and confidence it is much safer to carry all ready to roll.

I carried a Kershaw overseas for 2deployments as a utility knife, for use when the k-bar was just to bulky. Worked like a charm. I got home and cleaned out the sand and carried it for 3 years after. Sits in a drawer now but would use it in a heartbeat.
